| Scott Mine The coal seam was at 1,110 ft MSL and the railroad was down
around 850 ft MSL. I put the tipple at about 860 ft MSL. The photo shows
excellent evidence of the former mine, but it looks like the tipple had been
dismantled by 1939. I remember seeing the waste dump when traveling eastbound
on the Parkway before they built the shopping center. You can see where they
hit the coal seam when they excavated the hill behind Montour Church. I'll bet
they strip mined the area to offset the cost of grading the site. Click on the images to get a high resolution view.
